Giraffe Report Vs MCC XXIX’s Wednesday 28th November Albert Park Oval
Sandhurst journeyed down to Melbourne for the annual XXIX's match with a strong side with more than half the side regular 1st XI players. Unfortunately Sandhurst lost the toss on a damp wicket in the 40 over a side contest. Joel Schneider & Brock Fletcher made a cautious start, before Schneider was removed with the score on 14. Brock was the next batsman to fall for 11 with the score on 30 in the 17th over. Anthony West got to 10 before he was dismissed in the 20th over.
Mark Holland was the mainstay and the highlight reel of our batting performance, doing the bulk of the scoring in numerous partnerships in scoring 73 which included 3 four's and seven 6's. Ben Leed provided the only other real support compiling 27 as Sandhurst was dismissed for 153 in the final over.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the pitch had dried out considerably by the time the XXIX's innings begun, as Sandhurst tried just about every available option to break through the opposition's top order. 87 was on the board before Brock Fletcher standing in as wicket keeper took a catch off Tim Rob to provide the Dragon 1st break through. Coach Scullie then chimed in with one of his custom deliveries scooting through to trap Chris Janik LBW with the score on 94. Sandhurst were fighting their way back into the game and when Tim Rob claimed a 2nd wicket and Mark Holland chimed in for the 4th wicket of the innings the XXIX's had stumbled to 4 for 106 in the 29th over.
From there Sandhurst never had another look in, as opposition batsmen gave Dutchy a taste of his own medicine as victory was secured for the XXIX's in the 38th over eventually finish 4 for 164 from their 40 Overs. Tim Rob 2/11 off 6 Overs, Terry Scullie 1/26 and Mark Holland 1 for 33 the successful bowlers.
Man of the Match wasn’t a difficult decision as Mark Holland's "Master Blaster" innings of 73 securing him Man of the Match.
Sandhurst will seek revenge in next season's return fixture.
