Sandhurst Kick Off Twenty-20 Competition In Style

Sandhurst kicked off the 2010-2011 Twenty-20 with a 25 run victory over Bendigo United in the first round of action tonight. Built around Matt Pask's 61 not out from 46 balls and solid contributions from Nick Scullie 24 (16 balls) and Joel Schneider 22 (16 balls) Sandhurst batted sensibly to amass 6 for 163 from their 20 overs. Pasky's 61 not out included 7 fours and 1 six.

Bendigo United's reply got off to a flyer racing to 0/75 from 8.3 overs before the clamps were applied and Dylan Gibson struck picking up Nick Crawford caught and bowled. Skipper Anthony West secured the run out of Donegan without further addition. Dylan Gibson struck in his final over with Nick Scullie completing the stumping of Leigh Mcdermott. Then it was the 13th over with the re-introduction of Quinton Bentley that turned the game for good in the Dragons favor. Recent recruit Tyson Holt held onto a spectacular one handed catch to dismiss Andrew Powell at deep square leg that sparked a collapse of 4 for 0. Two balls later Quinton struck again, Nautin caught and bowled.

The following over Ricky Mannix fell victim to Andrew Bourne caught and bowled, and when Zac Mona was run out by bowler Andrew Bourne in a race to the strikers end BUCC's had slipped to 7 for 95 off 14 overs. A second wicket to Andrew Bourne caught in the deep by Joel Schneider left BUCC's needing 40 from 4 overs.

With overs quickly disappearing, wickets to Ben Leed and a catch in the deep from Leon Beatty from the bowling of Craig Burn left Bendigo United 138 all out from the final ball of the innings and Sandhurst victorious by 25 runs.
